“Discover How To Rank Higher In The Google Search Results By Understanding How Google Evaluates Your Pages”

Dear Friend,

Years ago, getting your site ranking high in the search engines was easy because all you had to do was a little bit more optimization than the top rankings sites and you would outrank them… piece of cake!

Over the years, though, the search engines have added many sophisticated algorithms and filters to make sure that all of the results are relevant…

This has made the Top 10 search results become much more accurate and users can quickly find what they are searching for…. but so much for the piece of cake.

Now to get your site’s Web pages ranking well in Google, you really have to know what Google is looking for and how they evaluate your site.

How Google Ranks Your Pages

Your pages get ranked in the Google search results based on two core principles: relevance and importance.

A page is deemed to be relevant if it matches both the search query and the interest of the user.

In other words, if a person searches using the search query “puppy training” for example, they are likely to see resources associated with dog training, agility, obedience tips, training courses, etc. - results relevant to the search phrase typed by the user.

How Personalization & Search History
Can Impact Your Search Results

Many people don’t know this but user personalization also can play a role, in what search results Google might show you.

Google might tailor search results by geography; for instance, on a search for “banks”, they might show primarily Canadian banks to Canadian searches and British banks to folks in the UK.

Search results may also be slightly customized to each individuals’ search history. Just being logged into your Gmail account can make an impact on the search results you get.

How Google Determines
Which Pages Are Most Important

With so many Web pages out there and, for many queries, millions of relevant pages, Google has to further narrow down and prioritize results, and this is done by evaluating the importance of each page.

Google’s original algorithm that assessed the importance of Web pages was dubbed “PageRank”. PageRank is an algorithm that examines the entire link structure of the Web to determine which pages are most important.

This evaluation relies on matching up the anchor text used in links that point to specific pages. PageRank considers each link as a vote of importance. Votes from some pages are considered to have greater value then votes from other pages.

Today, PageRank is now just one of over two hundred components that go into the ranking of Web pages, however PageRank does still play a significant role.

Each page’s score is based upon the quantity - and more important, the quality - of pages that link to it. This means that a relevant link from, for instance, a respected online magazine, will be likely worth more than a link from a friend’s guestbook.

Attracting Links By
Creating Great Content

The best ways to increase your pages’ PageRank is to create good content and from this you should be able to earn quality links naturally.

Thinking like your users, while it may sound obvious, is actually a powerful place to start. Of course, you should provide content designed for users, not search engines, making sure to treat search engine bots just as other users and never sending them different content.

When writing your content for your new pages, it makes sense to consider how your users are likely to search for this content.

Consider what keywords a user might type in when searching and make sure you use those keyword phrases in your titles and body content.

It also makes sense to link your topically relevant pages together to help users and search engines find your pages.

Building inbound links to your pages is one of the most important things you can do to see your rankings increase. If you have a page about “how to potty train a puppy” you would want to get links from other related sites.

The anchor text of the links pointing to your (how to potty train a puppy) page should describe what your page is about and should be included inside of a related page of content.

For example, you might want to have a link pointed to your page with the link anchor text of “puppy training”.

Or maybe something like how to potty train a puppy”.

Another great link would be “house train your puppy”.

Another link might be something like “tips for potty training puppies”.

Each of these inbound links will help to count as a vote and help your (how to potty train a puppy) Web page to naturally rank well.

The trick is to write great useful content that will help provide value to the reader and then to find a related site you can get your content published on.

You might consider using an article distribution service to submit your article and to get it published all around the Web.

Article marketing can be a very quick and powerful way to build incoming links to your site, increase your PageRank and see your search engine rankings improve.

To Your Success,

Brett T. Smith
